Insurgents killed in South Afghanistan

Afghanistan, Kabul, Dec. 21 / Trend , A. Hakimi/   Afghan National Army launched new military operations in Southern Afghanistan

According to Afghan Ministry of Defense, a joint operation of Afghan National Army and International Forces has recently started in Kandahar province.

In a press release, issued here in Afghanistan, is written that some explosive materials, Opium, weapons and ammunition recovered during mopping up operation in Kandahar province.

The operation that is launched by joined military operation will go on far day to purge the regions from insurgents.

The operation Atal 44 began in Zaray and Panjwai districts of Kandahar on Saturday, Dec.20, 2008.

On the first day of the operation, 80 kg of explosives were found by ANA.

Another report from Uruzgan says Afghan National Army and International Security Forces successfully completed their operation in this province succeeding in seizure of some weapons and ammunitions from the insurgents; however, the Ministry of Defense had no suspects arrested.

Ministry of Defense also announced the launch of another military operation in Sauroy district of Zabul province.

In other incidents, an Afghan driver killed in a car accident with ISAF.

An ISAF vehicle hit a civilian car killing the driver in Maidan Wardak province, ISAF spokesman Capt. Mark Windsor expressed grief upon the unexpected death of the Afghan driver.

Maidan Wardak is one of the insecure provinces of Afghanistan; but the major operations are underway further south of the province.
