Turkmenistan, Tajikistan exchange instrument of ratification on Agreement on friendship and cooperation

Turkmenistan, Ashkhabad, Dec. 26 / Trend , E.Hasanov /Turkmenistan and Tajikistan signed a Protocol on exchange of instrument of ratification of the Agreement on friendship and cooperation, the press release of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

The document from the Turkmen side signed by the Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov , and Kozidovlat Koimdodov , Tajik Ambassador. In the course of the exchange of ratification instruments the sides noted that "relations between Turkmenistan and Tadzhikistan, based on friendships historical traditions and friendly relations, actively developed on the widest spectrum of directions at present".

Turkmenistan Foreign Ministry notes that the major factors of stirring up of Turkmen- Tajik relations became official visits of Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimukhammedov to Dushanbe and Tajik President Emomali Rahmona to Ashkhabad in 2007. In accordance with agreements, achieved at the higher level, their positive dynamics obtained political consultations, commercial and economic connections and interaction in a cultured way- humanitarian sphere between two countries.

The contractual-legal base of double-sided Tajik- Turkmen political and economic relations consists of 34 documents, signed since 1993 until 2008. The foreign trade turnover of Tadzhikistan with Turkmenistan in the first half-year of 2008 was $31.4mln, i.e., one and a half times exceeds the indices of the analogous period of 2007. For purposes of more complete utilization of potential, existing with respect to two countries, intergovernmental commission for commercial and economic and scientific and technical collaboration is created.

Three year contract for the export of Turkmen electric power into Tadzhikistan was signed in 2007. In 2008 the document was prolonged for five-year period. According to the decision of the Turkmen President the collateral agreement for the export of the electric power into Tadzhikistan in volume 1.2bln KWt /h in autumn-winter period of 2008-2009 was signed.
