Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 2 / Trend , J.Babayeva/ Thirteen referendum initiative groups submitted membership lists to the Azerbaijan Central Election Commission (CEC).
"Fourteen referendum initiative groups have been established. The Democratic World of Azerbaijan initiative group decided to support the New Azerbaijan initiative group and has not submitted its membership lists to the CEC," CEC spokesman Azer Sariyev told Trend on Feb. 2.
The deadline for submitting signed referendum membership lists to the CEC expired Feb. 1 at 18:00.
Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend 29 articles of the Constitution.
The CEC registered the initiative group of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), as well as the Shahar and Taraggi groups. The Abad Kand group failed to pass registration.
A total of 113 initiative groups were registered at district election commissions.
The Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.
According to Sariyev, the CEC will check membership lists until Feb. 10.
"The registered groups will be able to launch their campaigns on Feb. 18. The referendum calendar plan says the campaigns must be completed by March 16 at 00:00," he said.
The CEC will consider the membership lists of the Vatandash Jamiyyati, Huquq va Demokratiya, Azad Soz, Davamli Inkishaf Namina, Garabag va Respublika Ugrunda Harakat, Respublikachilar, Azarbaycan Khalg Jumhuriyyati, Milli Istiglal and Zaka groups.
