Georgia, Tbilisi, Feb. 6 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia/
The Georgian Foreign Ministry welcomed a statement by the Czech Republic, which is presiding over the EU.
The statement relates to the EU's position on the memorandum of understanding on cooperation in international affairs between the Russian and Abkhaz foreign ministries. Russia distributed the agreement at a meeting with deputy foreign ministers of Council of Europe countries on Jan. 21.
In its statement, the Czech Republic recalled the summary document from the Council of Europe emergency meeting on Sept. 1. The document condemns Russia's unilateral decision to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
On behalf of the EU, the Czech Republic reiterated that Russia's decision is unacceptable and called upon other countries not to recognize the independence of Georgia's regions.
The Czech Republic argues that the conflict should be resolved in accordance with international legislative standards of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as on the basis of the last act of the Helsinki Conference on European Security and Cooperation and UN Security Council resolutions.
Candidate for EU membership Croatia, potential candidates for EU membership Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, member of the European Free Trade Association Iceland and Ukraine, Moldova and Monaco agreed with the statement.
