Azerbaijani opposition's registered agitation groups on referendum to stage rallies

Azerbaijani opposition's registered agitation groups on referendum will stage rallies.

"Groups will stage rallies during the agitation campaign. We will agitate through the free air time provided by Public Television," Arif Hajili, founder of the Republicans initiative group and head of the central executive department of Musavat party, said to Trend .

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend 29 articles of the Constitution.

Earlier CEC registered the NAP's initiative group, as well as the City, Taraggi, Law and Democracy and Civil Society groups, For Sustainable Development and Intelligence initiative groups. The Prosperous Village, Free Speech, Azerbaijani People's Republic and National independent groups failed to pass registration

Precinct election commissions registered 124 initiative groups.

The Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.

Opposition Musavat party was founded in Baku in Oct 1911. The third (restoration) sitting of Musavat party was held on 7 Nov 1992 in Republican Pal ace in Baku. Gambar was elected head of the Musavat party in a landslide in a secret vote.

Gambar was the speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament from 1992 to 1993. In 2003, he ran for presidency. The party is represented by 4 MPs in the Parliament.

"The agitation campaigns will be reviewed at the meeting scheduled for Feb. 12," Igbal Agazade, Umid party chairman, said.

The common tactics of the agitation campaign will be determined at the meeting. "We want every agitation group has a concrete draft," Agazade added.

The Movment for Republic and Karabakh initiative group was founded by the People's Front of Azerbaijan, Citizen and Development, Liberal, Musavat, Democratic, Umid parties and by several public organizations.
