Kyrgyz Parliamentary International Committee approves withdrawal of coalition forces from Manas

The Kyrgyz Parliamentary International Committee approved the withdrawal of coalition forces from the Manas base on Feb. 17.

The parliament recommended voting on the issue at a meeting on Feb. 19.

On Feb. 3, President Kurmanbek Bakiev announced his decision to close the base.

The parliament will pass the final decision.

The International Committee, Committee on Constitution and Defense Committee and all three factions must support the decision to annul the agreement with coalition forces.

The Defense Committee has already approved the action.

Manas opened in December 2001 after a UN mandate to support coalition forces in Afghanistan.
