On Feb. 18 UN Supreme Commissariat on Refugees, UN Children's Fund and UN World Food Program launched joint monetary aid program for internally displaced persons as a result of August conflict in 2008.
The project is implemented through support of the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid Office, US Agency of International Development, other donor governments, as well as Georgia's Ministry of Refugees and Resettlement and civil registry.
Upon the distribution system of monetary aid, short-term program of financial aid will be realized for those people who lived in Tskhinvali, Akhalgori and Java regions, Kurta, Tikvi, Eredvi and Ajara villages before the war and presently recorded in the civil registry.
The program will be implemented during three months - in February-April and beneficiaries will get the following aid for different age groups:
Non-permanent aid in amount of 100 lari to buy winter clothing. The aid will be distributed by UN Children's Fund among children under six years old and Supreme Commissariat on Refugees - among individuals older than 16 years old;
Monthly aid in amount of 100 lari to buy children's food and hygiene goods. The aid will be distributed by Children's Fund among children under two years old;
Monthly aid in amount of 25 lari to buy additional food. The aid will be distributed by Food Program among citizen older than two years;
Monetary aid will be granted via family-card accounts opened in People's bank. People's Bank will open an account for each beneficiary's family. Plastic card will be made for an adult member of the family. As part of the program, approximately 30,000 people will get monetary aid. Food Program granted 2,864,952 lari, Children's Fund - 766,490 lari, but Supreme Commissariat - 2,983,032 lari.
