Today Turkmenistan announced a tender to design a new passport for citizens of Turkmenistan. The new sample must meet international standards.
On July 10, 2008, passports with biometric data for citizens' departure to abroad and returning to Turkmenistan were put into operation.
The innovation was ratified by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, who became the first holder of new generation passport.
In accordance with generally accepted international standards, foreign passport has a special scheme- inserted contactless electronic chip, which includes personal information and biometric data, including fingerprints.
