Azerbaijan, Baku, March 3 / Trend , J.Babayeva/

The Azerbaijani opposition Muasir Musavat Party chairman intends to buy air time by own funds to express his position on the radical opposition's opinion on referendum.

The party's Chairman Hafiz Hajiyev wants to reply to the opposition Movement for Karabakh and Republic agitation group's biased statement during this air time.

"We will apply to ANS TV and Public Television to receive paid air time," Hajiyev told Trend on March 3. "As the ex-presidential candidate, I want to express my attitude toward the opposition's biased opinion."

The referendum campaign began on Feb. 18 and will end March 16 at midnight.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided to allot the referendum groups 90 minutes of airtime on both the Public Television and Public Radio stations.

Airtime will be provided on the television from 18:15 and on the radio from 20:15.

Under the Election Code, only agitation groups registered at the CEC can campaign on referendum through media.

Broadcasting and media company ANS, Public television and Khazar TV channel joined the paid referendum agitation campaign.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend the Constitution.

The CEC registered the New Azerbaijan, Shahar, Tereggi, Huquq Va Demokratiya, Vatandash Jamiyyati, For Long-Term Development, Zaka, Movement For Karabakh and the Republic and Republicans groups. The Abad Kand, Azad Soz, Azerbaijan People's Republic and Milli Istiglal groups failed to pass registration.

Hajiyev said that if TV channels where we will apply cannot allot air time, he will use other legal means to publicize our opinion concerning the radical opposition.
