The mission arrived to Azerbaijan on March 6 to monitor the referendum.

The mission comprises 50 people and is headed by CIS Executive Committee Deputy Chairman Toktasyn Buzubayev.

The referendum initiative campaigns were launched Feb. 18 in Azerbaijan. The campaigns will end March 16.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend 29 articles of the Constitution.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) registered the New Azerbaijan, City, Progress, Law and Democracy, Republicans, Republic and Movement for Karabakh and Civil Society initiative groups. The Prosperous Village, Free Speech, Azerbaijan People's Republic and National Independence groups were not registered.

The mission head met with CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov and held meetings in the parliament.

"I informed CEC and parliamentary officials about the mission's objective and neutral principles related to the amendments," Sloboda said.

Azerbaijani officials said conditions will be created to help international observers monitor the process.
