Economic pressure must be imposed on Israel to remove problems of Palestinian refugees: Palestine Return Centre head

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 30 / Trend , U.Sadigova/

World leading countries, particularly Europe should impose economic pressure on Israel to remove problems of Palestinian refugees fairly, Palestinian Center for Palestine Return Centre head Majid al-Zir said.

Leader of the right Likud party Binyamin Netanyahu, who may become the new Prime Minister of Israel, opposed the signing of an agreement with the Palestinians over the next two years.

Netanyahu, who created a coalition government, believes that it is necessary to improve the economy of the West Bank, before signing a truce with the Palestinian administration. This complicates the return of Palestinian refugees from Arab countries to Israel and the occupied territories.

According to the UN, the number of registered Palestine refugees amounted to over four million people over the past two years, most of whom live in Jordan.

Israel rejected the UN General Assembly Resolution 194, allowing Palestinian refugees to return to their land.

Head of the Israel is Our Home party Avigdor Lieberman, who will take the post of Israeli Foreign Ministry during the Government of Netanyahu, has denied any possibility of return of Palestinian refugees in the future. Lieberman supports the idea of religious and nationalist parties in Israel to expand Jewish settlements in the West Bank, Palestinian-Israeli international agreements signed in Oslo and Annapolis.

World powers that have close trade and political ties with Israel should pressure on Israel to follow international rights of the Palestinians, al-Zir said.

"Israel acts as it wants,al-Zir told Trend over phone from Damascus. If a powerful country and members of the Security Council want peace in the Middle East, then Israel should be exerted pressure.

Serious measures must be taken against Netanyahu's and Lieberman's each statement on eviction of Palestinians from their lands.

European countries should use trade ties with Israel in order to remove problems of refugees.
Trade between European countries and Israel representing Tel Aviv's 33 percent of the total turnover.
European countries can impose economic sanctions on Israel following the example of Cuba and Iran, said al-Zir.

Five resolutions and three documents have been accepted due to development of the nuclear program of Iran. The UN and leading countries economic sanctions have led to freezing of activity of Iranian banks in five western countries, and other Iranian banks have been warning about possible sanctions against them.
"Israel should not be an exception [to the economic sanctions]," said al-Zir

Al-Zir added that the situation of Palestinian refugees has not improved by the change of government, so we cannot say that the Palestinians lived better during the governing of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

"The problem is that racists of the right camp in Israel, which took more than 90 parliamentary seats, oppose the return of Palestinian refugees" said al-Zir.

We should not accept changes in such a situation until Israel does not oblige to comply with UN resolutions and the Palestinians' right to return.
