Azerbaijani President decrees to apply additions to Law on Mass Media Outlets

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev decreed to apply additions to the Law on Making Additions to the Law on Mass Media Outlets on April 16, AzerTaj state news agency reported.

The Cabinet of Ministers is instructed to develop proposals on aligning current legislative acts with the Law on Making Additions to the Law on Mass Media Outlets and submit them to the President in a month.

The Cabinet of Ministers must ensure conformance of cabinet's normative and legal acts and those of the central administrative bodies with this law.

Azerbaijani Justice Ministry will act as "respective administrative body" envisaged by the second part of the article 19 of the Law on Mass Media Outlets.

The following text is added to the second part of the article 19 of the Law on Mass Media Outlets: if foreigner or a person without higher education is appointed editor-in-chief of a press outlet and he/she is appointed to this post once again after being held responsible for abusing freedom of mass media and journalist right, the respective administrative body will file a suit in the court to close down the press outlet.
