Azerbaijan, Baku, May 29 / Trend , J.Babayeva/
Israel and Azerbaijan attached great importance to the forthcoming visit of Israeli President Shimon Peres to Baku, Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan Arthur Lenk said, Trend reports with links to www.IzRus.co.il.
Israeli President's first visit to Azerbaijan is tentatively scheduled for the last week of June.
"This is indeed an unusual event. Azerbaijan is a Muslim country with a Shiite majority, which has a side of Iran. However, President Aliyev has already stated that he will receive Shimon Peres with all honor and will respect him. Both sides attach great importance to this visit, because few people understood Azerbaijan as well as Israel. And we, and they are small countries, which are, diplomatically speaking, in a difficult environment ...",Lenk said.
According to the diplomat, the visit would strengthen political and economic relations between the two countries.
"We have all the prerequisites to develop mutually beneficial cooperation. We get oil from Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is interested in our technology, medical services and telecommunications. This is what the English called a win-win situation - where both sides win," Lenk said.
