Azerbaijani vice speaker: interests of all sides to be taken into account while funding political parties

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 9 / Trend , A. Huseynbala/

Vice speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament says realities must be taken into account while amending Law on Political Parties.

"The law should include provisions meeting interests of all sides. It will take certain time. Realities must be taken into account," Azerbaijani parliament's Deputy Chairman Bahar Muradova told Trend .

Azerbaijan's Justice Ministry has registered 52 political parties. The Law on Political Parties was adopted in 1992. The Law is expected to be amended to fund parties from the public budget.

Azerbaijani Presidential Administration official Ali Hasanov said earlier that this issue must be discussed both by parliament and public. He said most adequate option will be chosen during parliamentary discussions and world standards will be taken into consideration.

Hasanov said character of political parties and development interests will be taken into account while being funded from the public budget.

Azerbaijan's governing party says only political parties who take part in elections and who have seats in the parliament can be financed by the budget. The opposition politicians propose that registered parties receive financing from the state budget.

Muradova said the parliament is not expected to discuss amendments to the Law on Political Parties soon.
