Many serious crimes disclosed in Azerbaijan in first half year: deputy interior minister

Many serious and very serious crimes, committed during six months of this year have been disclosed in Azerbaijan, Deputy Interior Minister Asgar Alakbarov said in his official interview with media.

A total of 80.82 percent of serious or very serious crimes, 80 percent of homicides and 100 percent of deliberate murder have been disclosed, he said.

In 2008, operational and investigation measures neutralized 257 gangs and groupings, which comprised 777 people, Alakbarov said. The deputy minister also regretted growth of trend of human trafficking crimes in Azerbaijan, as it occurs all over the world.

"Human trafficking crimes which are mostly committed by gangs having international ties are of transnational character and threatens security of the state, including influence on the national genofond," Alakbarov said.

In six months of 2009, number of human trafficking crimes decreased compared to the same period of 2008. Some 82 percent of such crimes were revealed in this period.
