Central Asian countries to discuss Aral problems in Ashgabat

On July 16, Ashgabat will host a round table on the "Expansion of regional cooperation: a meeting on the results of the summit of the International Fund for Rescue of the Aral Sea (IFRA) founders" at the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia (UNRCCA).

Representatives of IFRA founder countries, IFRA executive committee leadership and senior officials of the UN subdivisions, as well as the representatives of regional and international organizations acting in the Central Asia will take part in the meeting.

The meeting will be focused on optimal ways of assistance to the Central Asian countries in implementing resolution of the IFRA founder' summit held in Almati on April 28, as well as the subsequent steps to develop cooperation amongst the Central Asian countries in management of the region's water resources.

The United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia was established in Ashgabat to assist the regional countries in search of adequate responses to existing and potential threats. Support of the Central Asian countries' attempts to address issues in rational use of water resources and protection of environment are the main priorities of the Ashgabat center's activity.
