Azerbaijani opposition party to prefer young candidates in municipal elections

The Azerbaijani Civil Development Party (CDP) will prefer young candidates in municipal elections.

The party's leadership was informed abouth the youth willing to take an active part in the elections. In this respect, the party conducts relevant work to involve the party's young members, as well as the independent youth in elections, chair of the youth organization of the CDP Nuraddin Babayev told trend News on July 29.

Azerbaijan will hold the municipal elections in December 2009. Number of municipalities decreased from 2,757 to 1,766.

The party's leadership greets the idea of youth active participation in the elections. The party showed an interest in this idea. The party will prefer the young candidates in list of the candidates who will participate in the municipal elections, Babayev said.

The Civil Development Party was founded in 2006. By that time members of this organization represented the Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP). As a result of split in the ANIP, Ali Aliyev's supporters convened the congress and founded the CDP. The party is represented in the Azadlig bloc.
