Illegally wildlife sale confiscated in Baku

Representatives of the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry confiscated illegally sale wildlife on the Taza bazar market in Baku on July 29.

As a result of the raids on the market three urchins, three wild birds and a monkey were seized. Urchins and the birds were transferred to the zoo. They will be released to nature after quarantine. It was cleared a relevant permit was issued for sale of the monkey.

The Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry has conducted raids in the country since July 15. The raids have been completed in Shamakhi, Zagatala, Shamkir and Baku. The monitoring revealed animals illegally kept in a restaurant in Shamakhi. Two gazelle, which were included in the "Red Book", were taken from Khan Bagy restaurant and transferred to the National Park Ag gel.

Wildlife trade is prohibited in Azerbaijan. Under the law, the sale of wild animals without evidence is fined by 200-300 manat (for individuals) and 3,000-5,000 manat (enterprises).
