Azerbaijan advantageously differs from many countries by it tolerance, French ambassador to Azerbaijan Gabriel Keller said at a meeting in the Center for Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijani President on October 9.

He said that France plays great role to establish relations between EU and Azerbaijan. Ambassador said that Azerbaijan is very important partner for EU, especially in energy. Azerbaijan is also connecting link between Central Asia and EU, diplomat said.

"France enters co-chairmanship in OSCE Minsk Group. It is important for us to contribute in settlement of Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict and establish peace on South Caucasus," ambassador said.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan lost all of Nagorno-Karabakh except for Shusha and Khojali in December 1991. In 1992-93, Armenian armed forces occupied Shusha, Khojali and 7 districts surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
