The Austrian Embassy in Azerbaijan probably will begin to operate in spring 2010, the press service of the Austrian Foreign Ministry said.

"No final date [of opening the Embassy] has as yet been set, which is hopefully due to happen in spring," Spokesman of the Austrian foreign Ministry Peter Launsky wrote Trend news via e-mail.

Efforts are moving into the right direction and logistical preparatory steps on location may start as early as December, this year, Launsky added.

The Azerbaijan-Austria diplomatic relations was established in February 1992.

Thanks to the efforts of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Austria, opened in 1995, the Azerbaijan-Austria relations developed and strengthened in various fields. Currently, Fuad Ismayilov is the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Austria.

Marius Calligaris has been appointed Austrian Ambassador to Azerbaijan in November. The headquarters of the Embassy is located in Ankara

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, in January-July 2009 trade turnover with Austria amounted to $36.8 million.
