The party represented in Azerbaijani opposition movement will participate in municipal elections independently. 

"A final decision for parties to participate in the municipal elections independently was made at a special meeting," press-service of Azerbaijani Democratic party represented in the Movement for Karabakh and Republic told Trend on October 16. 

Azerbaijani municipal elections are scheduled for December 23. About 15,682 members are expected to be elected for 1,718 municipalities.

Municipal elections were held twice in 1999 and 2004.

According to the decision, members of the party will nominate their candidates for the municipal elections upon personal initiative. "Political parties, members of the movement, will not be able to participate in the municipal elections together, as it was planned due to the crisis in the Movement for Karabakh and Republic", the declaration adopted at the meeting said.

The declaration said that the party decided to participate in the municipal elections individually and calls its members and supporters to actively participate in the upcoming municipal elections to enhancing the activity of citizens in political life of the society and participate in solving local problems through representation in the municipalities.

People's Front party, the Citizens and Development party, Liberal party, Musavat party, Umid Party, Azerbaijani Democratic Party, as well as several public organizations founded the Movement for Karabakh and Republic on the eve of the referendum on making changes and additions to the Constitution held on March 18, 2009.
