Being on visit in Ashgabat, France's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Thierry Mariani is discussing the situation in the border Afghanistan.

Turkmenistan has 850-kilometer long border with Afghanistan.

Ashgabat has repeatedly hosted international conferences on Afghanistan and the country offers its territory for humanitarian goods.

Ashgabat connects the Afghan transit with a chance to build a gas pipeline to Pakistan and India, but the unstable situation in the region postpones these plans for an indefinite time.

Mariani held a series of meetings at several Turkmen ministries, including foreign, defense and national security ministries, as well as at state departments of the border guard and drug enforcement.

Appraising the Turkmen position on the Afghan issue, the French delegation expressed interest in establishing close cooperation with their Turkmen counterparts in peaceful life in the land of Afghanistan," Altyn Asyr TV channel reported on Oct.21.

Turkmenistan provides the northern border of Afghanistan with electricity at discounted prices builds schools and hospitals free of charge and reconstructed two kilometer-wide railway branch from the Turkmen border to the Afghan city of Turgundi.
