According to the Iranian Poldasht city's Executive Power Chief Jalil Ghaffari, a project on reconstruction of the bed and the sandy bottom of the Araz River on the Iranian border with Azerbaijan, Iranian TV website IRIBNEWS reported.
Ghaffari said that the realization of the project started 2001 with investments of $5 million. At present, 95 percent of the operations has been done. "Up to now, 11 km of the territory has been reconstructed within the project," Ghaffari said.
According to him, additional investments will be allocated for the project and the reconstruction will be completed by March, 2009.
Araz River, with length of 1040 km, plays a role of border between Azerbaijan and Iran, and changing its direction to the northern point of the line is connected to the Kur River.
