Russia will continue to contribute to normalization of Armenia -Turkey relations: Russian president

Russia, Moscow, Dec.9 / Trend I.Bragina /

Russia has a positive position on warming the Armenia -Turkey relations and will continue to contribute to this process, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at the Forum of European and Asian media today.

"We have a positive position on Turkey's and Armenia's attempts to overcome the enormous problems that the 20th century faced by showing mutual restraint and search for compromise," the president said in response to question asked by the Armenian journalist.

Turkish and Armenian foreign ministers Ahmet Davutoglu and Edward Nalbandian signed the Ankara-Yerevan protocols in Zurich Oct. 10. Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey have been broken due to Armenia's claims of an alleged genocide, and its occupation of Azerbaijani lands. The border between them has been broken since 1993.

The president said it is important to understand that the normalization of the Armenia -Turkey relations is not directed against anyone, but it is done for Armenia and Turkey themselves.
