Georgia only contradiction in U.S.-Russia relations: U.S. deputy secretary of state

Georgia, Tbilisi, Dec.10 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia /

Georgia is the only point of contradiction between Washington and Moscow, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Philip Gordon said at a meeting.

Gordon noted that Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

"We spoke clearly that we will not recognize these regions," he said, adding that the U.S. will continue efforts to prevent countries from recognizing these breakaway regions.

He added that it is regrettable that international forces are not allowed into the conflict zone and the OSCE cannot continue its activities in the areas.

"We will also try to convince Georgia that a real way to resolve the problem is the continuation of stable development, so the residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia become interested in integration themselves. We will help Georgia in this direction," Gordon said.
