Over 53 of 60 embassies have redeployed from Almaty to Astana, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting with diplomatic missions accredited in Astana in Ak-Orda today.

"Over 53 of 60 embassies have moved to Astana. For the first time the ambassadors of Norway and Finland will celebrate the New Year in Kazakhstan," he said.

Addressing the diplomats, Nazarbayev said with a smile that the climate in Astana is much better than in Almaty.

"Today it is quite cold at 30 degrees. But it is sterile. There are no viruses or microbes. They die in such a cold," he joked.

At the end of the meeting, the president congratulated the heads of the diplomatic missions with the coming New Year and wished them and their families happiness.
