Media representatives observe the course of the municipal elections in prisons No 1, No 15 and No 6.

There is a constituency No 33 of the first Nizami election district No 24 in the prison No 1. About 940 voters have been registered there. As of 12:30 a.m., about 400 people voted. Voters must elect 9 municipal members of 21 candidates at this constituency.

There is a constituency No 32 of the first Nizami election district No 24 in the prison No 15. About 812 voters have been registered there. As of 12:30 a.m., about 450 people voted.

There is a constituency No 31 of the first Nizami election district No 24 in the prison No 6. About 895 voters have been registered there. About 85 percent of people voted before 12:30, chairman of the constituency Ali Alakparov said.

No violations were registered in the above-mentioned prisons.

Observers said the elections are held democratically. No pressure is exerted on prisoners.

About 13 constituencies and 22 election district were established in Azerbaijani prisons due to the municipal elections.

About 15,500 prisoners will vote in prisons.

About 14,000 are prisoners, 1,500 - soldiers serving active service.

The municipal elections are held in Azerbaijan Dec. 23. Voting began in constituencies throughout the country at 08:00 a.m.

About 15,682 members are planned to be elected to 1,718 municipalities. Municipal elections were held twice in 1999 and 2004.

Azerbaijan has registered about 31,000 candidates. Candidates from 16 political parties have been registered for elections. Candidates refer to 30 political parties.

The CEC will provide information on ballots at 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. It has already published data for 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m.
