Georgian Parliamentary Speaker David Bakradze thanked Spain for its principled position in respect to not recognizing South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

"Spain is a key partner working on the policy of non-recognition," he said at a meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos.

"The meeting also addressed Georgia-EU relations," he added.

According to the official, the sides also discussed the upcoming elections and security issues in these regions.

Bakradze expressed hope that Spain's activity as the chairman of the EU will result in progress in simplifying the visa regime for Georgians.

Meanwhile, Moratinos noted that Spain and the EU do not recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia. He added that Spain will work to promote a simplified visa regime and free trade and start talks on an association agreement during the Spanish EU chairmanship.

He noted the importance of the Georgian parliament's cooperation with the EU parliament.

He said that the development of the Eastern Partnership and Georgia's participation in this program is also important.
