Georgia, Tbilisi, March 15 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

"The population of the country is fairly shocked in connection with the simulated plot of Imedi TV company, Georgia's Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said at the traditional briefing today.

According to her, "Imedi" is an independent TV company. The Foreign Ministry can not respond to it positively or negatively.

"But as an ordinary citizen, I believe that popular indignation and protest were fair. The international community also expressed its concern ", Kalandadze said.

According to her, after the report, several ambassadors called her to give explanations.

With regard to the impact that this story might have on the image of Georgia, Kalandadze hoped that the democratic part of the international community, which believes that the media is free, and authorities have no right to interfere in its activity, will assess the situation correctly.

"As for the threats, it is our duty to protect the population. We know that the threats are real and they come from Russia. But the population is mainly informed about this. We know that the international community will help us to avoid these threats ", Kalandadze said.
