PACE president: Whether "genocide" of Armenians took place to be decided not by politicians, but by historians

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 15 / Trend , S.Suleymanov/

Whether "genocide" of Armenians took place should be decided not by the politicians or the parliamentarians, but by the historians," said PACE President Mevlud Chavushoglu, commenting on the question by the Trend correspondent.

"Neither the politicians nor the parliament nor the national parliaments can judge the history. Historians of various countries should come together and discuss, collecting the facts and count how many people died, on the basis of which to conclude whether it was genocide," said Chavushoglu .

The U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee adopted a resolution recognizing the so-called "Armenian Genocide." The resolution was adopted with 23 votes for and 22 votes against. On March 11, Swedish parliament's committee on foreign affairs also recognized so-called "Armenian genocide".

Turkey expects all countries, especially the United States not to recognize "genocide."

According to him, the fact that Sweden supported the resolution is a coincidence, but not a chain reaction to the decision of U.S. Congress committee on foreign affairs. According to Chavushoglu, to make any decisions relating to the history is not the prerogative of national parliaments.
