Azerbaijani ruling party thinks that the approval of the report on the government's activities of 2009 in the Parliament has a serious basis.

"2009 entered in the world's history as a year of serious, global and financial crisis. The countries of the world, with the strongest economy, still feel the severe consequences of this crisis. Some countries have so far failed to eliminate the damage caused by the crisis. Despite all these, Azerbaijan's economy showed 9.3 percent growth in 2009," deputy chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmedov stated in the Internet site of the party.

According to Ahmedov, few countries could demonstrate such a development in a global crisis of 2009. "But as seen from the figures, Azerbaijan's development is significant," he said.

"All this allows us to have opinion about a sufficiently effective activity of the Azerbaijani government in 2009," said the deputy chairman.

He believes that a successful implementation of the Azerbaijan's economic strategy, defined by President Ilham Aliyev, created basis for achieving success in all spheres of the economy. "The banking and financial system's activities and the stability of the country's national currency can be set as an example of effective actions during the crisis. This is reflected not only in the stability of national currency, at the same time it is reflected in the fact that the living standards of Azerbaijani people didn't decrease during the crisis. Therefore, this factor is an indicator of Azerbaijan's economic activity during the crisis year," Ahmedov said.

According to the deputy chairman, a problem of unemployment was not observed in Azerbaijan, which existed in other countries. "Demonstrating the stability, economy has provided the basis for achieving high performances. Azerbaijan is one of the few countries that demonstrate economic development in the crisis year. I think that this fact is one of the factors determining sufficient performance of the Azerbaijani government in 2009. Even falling of energy prices in 2009 could not slow our country's development temp. This shows that along with the development of oil and gas industry, a major base for the development of non-oil sector also was established. Presently, many-sided development of the country's economy is provided. Successfully completion of 2009 provides a serious basis for achieving success in 2010," Ahmedov said.
