Romania has decided to place some elements of the defense system the United States in its territory, Foreign Minister of Romania Teodor Bakonsky said today at a press conference in Baku.
"We believe that it will strengthen our security and confidence in Romania as a strategic partner of the U.S.," Bakonsky said.
He said missile defense deployment will be carried out in accordance with a system of NATO and be defensive in nature. The minister said the elements of U.S. missile defense system in Romania, in no case will not be directed against other countries. "Russia was also invited to participate in this process," he said.
Feb. 4, Romania's Supreme Defense Council gave consent to place in its territory Rocket Interceptors Standard Missile 3 (SM-3), which are elements of American missile defense system.
