Kazakh government allocates 5.6 billion tenge to combat drugs in 2009

About 5.6 billion tenge were allocated from the governmental reserve in 2009 to protect the southern borders of Kazakhstan from drug trafficking routes, the Kazakh Interior Ministry told Trend .

"A number of special actions to block drug trafficking routes, identify drugs sellers and organized criminal groups were conducted in 2009," he said.

The department said anti-drug propaganda was organized in a systematic manner.

"The strengthening of the anti-drug legislation will ensure that the amount of drug smuggling through the country falls, particularly heroin. In 2009, the number of drug users reduced by 1.6 percent, including young people by 8,2 percent," the ministry said.
