Georgia, Tbilisi, March 24 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

The U.N. plans to open Drugs and Crime office in Tbilisi in April, Georgian risk reduction network NGO representative David Otiashvili said at a meeting with deputies of the faction of the Christian Democrats today.

He said the office will regulate drug legislation in the country. It will make recommendations to bring the Georgian legislation in accordance with the European one.

Otiashvili thinks that there is no comprehensive approach in Georgia. The most important thing is that there is no political will to solve the drug problem. He said drug users should be treated by health organizations, not security forces.

The Christian Democrats started holding meetings today with the nongovernmental sector to develop an appropriate legislative initiative on problems with drugs on the basis of received information and recommendations.
