The National Security Ministry terror detainedmembers of an organized group who had planned to smuggle arms, ammunition, and explosives from Georgia into Azerbaijan.
The ministry has detaiend Azerbaijani citizens Samir Dadash Nuriyev, Rafael Ibrahim Mugumov, Yashar Spartak Gurbanov, Roza Muzaffar Namazova, Khaver Hamza Namazova and Bella Muzaffar Panahova, and Russian citizen Elbert Elmirzayevich Gayrbiyev, the ministry's PR Department told Trend .
The individuals had planned to smuggle the contraband into the country in November 2009. The group's head Agil Namazov delivered the arms and ammunition to a resident of the Guluzambina village in the Balaken region Jan. 6, 2010. Namazov entrusted group member Rafael Mugumova to store the contraband until receiving future instructions.
The group members have been detained as a result of the investigation and search operations conducted by Ministry of National Security March 16, 2010. As a result of the search, During the searching operations in the apartment of Rosa Namazova, who lives in Narimanov district of Baku city, 40 Reservoir street, apartment 3B, one "Macarov" pistol and one cartridge clip to the Macarov pistol was unveiled and confiscated. Khaver Namazova - one CZ-75 "Champion" pistol, 616 bullets of different calibers both for "Champion" and other pistols, seven cartridge clips, one "GSM", one portable satellite terminal and 10 fuse capsule-detonators meant for military electro-detonator were unveiled under the stone rock located near the secondary school yard of Khatai district. Yashar Gurbanov - Nasimi district of Baku city, 4th micro-district, 58/75 Mir Jalal street. 150 bullets of 7.62x25 mm caliber, one pneumatic pistol cartridge clip and vacuum clutches, cold steel, and 6 gr. of heroin. Office of the Chechen Invalids' Society "Salaam", headed by Elbert Gayrbiyev - 24 trotyl cartridges, each of the trotyl cartridge weights 400 gr. - altogether 10 kg., 950 electro-detonator, 1 "Macarov" pistol, 1 "Viking MP 446" pistol, 39 bullets, 6 cartridge clips, 2 "IC-R20" walkie-talkie, scanning receiver, and 6 gr. of heroin. Rafael Mugumov's home in Garakli village of Balaken region - one "Stechkin" pistol and 210 bullets for this pistol, 1 silencer, 5 cartridge clips, 1 "Berett 92" pistol and one cartridge clip for this pistol, 107 bullets, 1 "Erme Werke" gas pistol made in Germany and 30 bullets for this pistol, 2 hunting knives, and 0.442 gr. of heroin.
Mugumov later testified that Namazov had vowed "to unleash jihad" in Azerbaijan.
The investigation is still underway.
