Azerbaijani official: U.N. resolution unfulfilled on Kalbajar region's occupation
Azerbaijan, Baku, Apr. 2 / Trend A.Huseynbala /
U.N. Resolution No. 822 on the occupation of Azerbaijan's Kalbajar region has been left unfulfilled, Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov said at a meeting today.
Azerbaijan marks the seventeenth anniversary of the region's occupation by Armenian armed forces. The region was captured April 2, 1993 after several days of fighting. After the region's occupation, the U.N. Security Council adopted a resolution demanding the immediate release of the region and other occupied areas of Azerbaijan. Armenia has not fulfilled the resolution.
Asadov said Kalbajar will be liberated due to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's resolute policies.
"I believe we are marking the anniversary of Kalbajar's occupation for the last time," he said.
