Georgia, Tbilisi, May 8 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

U.S. Embassy in Georgia issued a statement of FBI Director Robert Mueller, who visited Tbilisi.

"I am honored to stay in Tbilisi. Georgia and the United States have close relations. We have good cooperation in many areas. Despite the fact that this is my first visit to Georgia, I am well aware that cooperation between law enforcement agencies of our countries has great history, U.S Federal Bureau of Investigation director Robert Mueller said.

"During my visit to Tbilisi, good meetings were held with Minister Vano Merabishvili and Minister Zurab Adeishvili. We have considered the successful story of our collaboration. We hope that the FBI, the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Justice will remain partners in future. The population of Georgia values the work of law enforcement agencies. I want to praise Minister Merabishvili and his department for the progress that they reached, " a statement said.

"FBI proposes foreign partners a broad program of training that takes place both at the FBI Academy, and abroad for a better coordination. For example, the Georgian Interior Ministry's staff was trained to investigate crime scenes and crimes committed with weapons of mass destruction. Two members of this same ministry graduated from the FBI National Academy," the message said.

He said that trainings are a part of the U.S Department of Justice, which aims to provide assistance to Georgia in the development of a new Criminal Procedure Code. "It should be noted that Georgian investigators visited the United States and shared their experience in combating organized crime in Eurasia. These organized groups pose a serious problem to the United States and other countries. Thorough knowledge of our Georgian colleagues was very helpful. I will not mention specific cases. The FBI, the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Justice successfully cooperated and will continue to cooperate in combating organized crime, particularly in the fight against violent criminals and cyber-crimes. We will continue to cooperate. Cooperation between law enforcement agencies of different countries is of vital importance to fight against international crime and terrorism. I want to sincerely thank the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice for cooperating with the FBI, " a statement said.
