Opposition parties in Azerbaijan use natural disaster for their political purposes
Azerbaijan, Baku, May 11 /Trend, A.Huseynbala/
Opposition parties in Azerbaijan are using the disaster, caused by rise in water level of Kur River, for their political purposes, and this is reflected in the opposition press, an MP from the ruling party
Mubariz Gurbanli said at the parliamentary session.
"Floods always took place in Kur River. But this year the flood led to more serious consequences. The government carries out works to eliminate them. In recent years, no MP raised the issue of dilapidated dams in the Kur River," said Gurbanli.
In recent days, floods occurred in 40 districts of Azerbaijan due to rise in Kur River and rainfalls. As a result of the disaster, about 20,000 houses were flooded, more than 300 destroyed, 2,000 became unsafe, 50,000 hectares of cultivated land left under water.
Currently one meter drop is recorded in the level of Kur River in certain territories, Azerbaijani minister of emergency situations
Kamaladdin Heydarov briefed the media.
"We are already out of critical situation. Now works are carried out to restore the dams and will be completed within two or three days," he said.
Necessary work is carried out to ensure normal living conditions of the evacuated population of nine villages, said Heydarov.
At a meeting, the President instructed all government agencies and MPs to conduct relevant activities, said Gurbanli.
