Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili met with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt yesterday evening. According to the Georgian Presidential Press Service, Saakashvili and Bildt met in Batumi.

"The sides discussed Georgia's European integration and Sweden's assistance in this regard," the press service reported.

The two officials also discussed the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and the EU's role in preserving stability in the region.

After the meeting, Saakashvili familiarized his guest with Batumi at night.

"I am very impressed with what I saw. Batumi is a beautiful city and your country has been able to achieve much in recent years and this is very important," Bildt said, while sharing his impressions on Batumi with journalists.

This morning, Bildt, together with Georgian Deputy Prime Minister, State Minister for European Integration Giorgi Baramidze, will visit the Polish city of Sopot, which will host a meeting of EU foreign ministers and representatives of the Eastern Partnership.
