Baku adopts resolution and action plan on results of seventh conference ‘Gender equality’

A resolution and an action plan on the results of the 7th conference on the topic “Gender equality” were adopted in Baku, Hijran Huseynova, the head of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children said at a press conference today.

A resolution and an action plan on the results of the 7th conference on the topic "Gender equality" were adopted in Baku, Hijran Huseynova, the head of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children said at a press conference today.

"The action plan envisages informing women about their rights," she said.

Baku hosts a conference on gender equality on May 24-25, organized with the support of the government of Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe. The first conference on this topic took place 25 years ago. The participants of the conference also include Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maud de Boer-Buquicchio and UN Deputy Secretary General Asha-Rose Migiro.

The representative of Secretary General for Gender Equality of the Council of Europe Iphigenia Katsaridou said that the action plan envisages the integration of women in the institution of justice. In addition, she said, the activity within the resolution will be aimed at protecting the rights of unprotected categories of women.

According to representative Directorate General of Human Rights and Legal Affairs of the Council of Europe Philippe Boillat, the two-day conference organized in Baku will contribute to further ensuring legal equality between men and women.

"Equality between men and women is the main condition of democracy," he said.
