Georgia, Tbilisi, May 26 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

Georgia withstood the years of occupation and aggressive wars. For many years we were an occupied country, but never broke and always acquired freedom again, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said at a military parade.

"There are no most of those empires. We stand and no one could break us so much as to obliterate. That is why this day is so significant for us. We have a country, a flag which flutters proudly. We value our freedom and independence ", he said.

Meanwhile, the president urged not to forget that fathers and children of current citizens could not breathe freely and live in a free Georgia. "We are a privileged generation, as we are free and have the right to fight for this freedom," President Saakashvili said, noting that the present generation should "establish a permanent guarantee of freedom and independence."

"Independence is the opportunity to build our country, live in it freely, choose friends and act in the interests of Georgia but not other countries. The most important thing is the freedom of people because one can not be free in the occupied country ", Saakashvili said.

He stressed that Georgia "refuses from controlling the third party." "Our freedom is the desire of the people, but not any particular political party", he said.

Georgia's President emphasized that today, as before, the empire threatens to Georgia. "We have politicians who say that we have a powerful enemy. They say that we must not resist, but comply, covering our heads with ashes. But our people will never agree, because they always fought for freedom," he said.

President Saakashvili stressed that the struggle for statehood of Georgia will be successful only in the context of reforms, creating of a modern multi-ethnic nation, economic development, strengthening of democracy and protecting of the society from criminals, the people's unity, a strong army.

"We have critics who are against of a military parade and military men, who say that this is saber rattling. But I can say that the sounds of the parade are not saber-rattling, but the heartbeat of our country. Nobody can stop its beating and return us back to the past," the president said.

"Corrupt elites in Georgia died. Now talent will open the road to all. Anyone can achieve anything if he is working hard," he said, stressing that Georgia clearly chosen a European way of development and does not intend to leave it.

"European integration is irreversible. We are all together on the path to this", Saakashvili said.
