Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov made a number of personnel changes to the Turkmen State Anti-Narcotics Service this week.

Gurbanberdi Nursahatov was appointed as head of the Ahal Province Department and Mayor Tore Babatadzhov was appointed as head of the Lebap Province Department.

The Geknar-2010 state anti-narcotics program is underway in Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen Presidential Press Service said the Turkmen State Security Council recently convened in Ashgabat to discuss the appointments.

He also stressed the need to further strengthen measures to combat narcotics use and drug trafficking.

"There can be no leniency toward drug addicts and people engaged in drug trafficking," Berdimuhammedov said.

The government intends to purchase helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles to increase its control over the country's borders.
