The United States continues to work with observation missions and governments to find a peaceful solution to the conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the U.S. State Department said in a report devoted to democratic development.

The United States continues to work with observation missions and governments to find a peaceful solution to the conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the U.S. State Department said in a report devoted to democratic development.

The report stated that the United States will not concede on the sovereignty and territorial issue and will help to return IDPs to their homes.

The United States will also assist democratic reform in Georgia, as well as fair elections, rule of law, judicial and media freedom, civil society development and advancing political pluralism, the report said.

The U.S. State Department pays special attention to developing the accountability of political institutions, strengthening civil society, and promoting rule of law toward Russia.

According to the report, the country has low political activity, as restrictions on the freedom of civil society and media slow down democratic development.

The document also stressed the need to reduce corruption in the country.
