Azerbaijani citizens to receive ID cards before parliamentary elections

The Baku Central Police Department will issue ID cards to Azerbaijani citizens who have yet to receive identification documents before the parliamentary elections, Deputy Chief of the department's Passports and Identity Cards Registration Service Ali Aliyev said at a news conference today.

The Baku Central Police Department will issue ID cards to Azerbaijani citizens who have yet to receive identification documents before the parliamentary elections, Deputy Chief of the department's Passports and Identity Cards Registration Service Ali Aliyev said at a news conference today.

"The service is working to provide citizens with ID cards," he said.

Aliyev stressed that the service has upped its activities in the run-up to the elections.

The department's Public Security Service head Dashgin Mehdiyev added that district police departments are also working hard to ensure public safety at unauthorized political rallies.

Parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan Nov. 7, 2010. Previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held according to the majority system in Azerbaijan's 125 constituencies.
