EU Special Representative to the South Caucasus Peter Semneby arrived in Tbilisi this morning. He told journalists at the Tbilisi airport that he intends to meet with local politicians and also to visit Abkhazia.

"I intend to discuss conflict resolution and the EU's role in the process in Sukhumi," he said. "I look forward to an interesting and meaningful meeting in Abkhazia, including with the leadership of the republic."

Semneby will leave Sukhumi for Batumi July 15. The city will host an international conference on "Georgia's European Path."

The conference will address European neighborhood partnerships and challenges to security in the region, as well as Georgia's economic integration into EU.

Semneby's upcoming visit to Azerbaijan will be unplanned, Semneby's office in Baku told Trend. He may pay a visit to Baku in late August, the office said.
