About 1,078 surveillance cameras have been installed at 375 points in Baku, the Azerbaiajni Interior Ministry "Safe City" service head, Police Major Ilgar Guliyev told media.
"This system was launched in January last year. The main aim is to constantly monitor the observance of legal norms in public places, streets and squares, areas of educational, cultural and medical institutions with the help of cameras, Guliyev said.
Guliyev said that the process of video surveillance is underway.
About 2,000 different incidents were registered in the first half of this year on city streets by means of video cameras. More than 20,000 traffic violations were revealed, he said.
Guliyev said that about 23 accidents are related to accidents with pedestrians. About 110 facts of violation of public order, eight cases of fire, one case of willful infliction of injury, and 52 cases of other crimes were revealed due to cameras.
