Uzbekistan urges Kyrgyz authorities to speed up delimitation of border to prevent possible conflicts

Uzbekistan urges the Kyrgyz Government to speed up the delimitation and demarcation of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border, the Committee for the Protection of State Border of the National Security Service of Uzbekistan said.

"Initiate before formed by the Kyrgyz Republic Government an issue of renewal and rapid completion of work of the joint intergovernmental commission on delimitation and demarcation of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border to prevent conflict situations on the uncoordinated parts of the border and providing security at its perimeter," the paragraph made in the protocol adopted on the results of the working meeting of heads of border departments of the two countries, held last weekend in the Topolino settlement in the Khanabad city of the Uzbek Andijan region.  

The meeting was attended from the Uzbek side by Deputy Chairman of the National Security Service, the commander of border troops of the National Security Service, Major General Ruslan Mirzayev, from Kyrgyz side- first deputy chairman of the Kyrgyz State National Security Service Col Zakir Tilenov.

During the meeting the sides exchanged information on the nature and trends of the situation on the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border, as well as on the status and prospects of further cooperation between border agencies, the report said.

As a result of talks took place in a constructive way, the sides reached an understanding and the desired result, the report says.

An agreement was reached on immediate review of emerging cross-border issues, conduct joint examinations and objective assessment of the situation on the border to find rational solutions for them.

The total length of the border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is 1,375 km, 300 km of which is under discussion.
