On Monday, the head of the Russian Presidential Administration Sergey Naryshkin presented desk medals "65 Years of Victory in Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" at the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan.
The medals were issued by the Russian organizing committee "Victory", chaired by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Significant role of public organizations and individual citizens of Azerbaijan in collaboration with with veterans and celebration of the 65-th-anniversary of the Victory was stressed by awarding with 'Victory' medals. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Republican Council of Veterans were awarded with medals and diplomas.
The Public Union of Participants of Leningrad Blockade, Narimanov District Executive Power head Abdin Farzaliyev, as well as the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan were also awarded with medals.
WWII veterans, as well as participants of the Leningrad blockade attended the ceremony.
"We will never forget the deeds of those who forged victory with weapons. Victory was gained for us and Europe due to the union of Soviet people", Naryshkin said at the ceremony.
"We are grateful to President Aliyev. We appreciate the position of the authorities and politicians in Azerbaijan, as well as historians who are doing everything possible to preserve the memory of the tasks of the Great Patriotic War. Today, I am very pleased to give a diploma and a medal to Ilham Aliyev," the head of the Russian Presidential Administration said.
