Georgia, Tbilisi, Aug. 5 / Trend, N. Kirtskhalia /

Russia's consideration regarding the fact that on which country an embargo on arms should be imposed, is deprived of common sense, a member of the Georgian parliamentary majority Nugzar Tsiklauri commented on the statement by the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin that "this measure will significantly reduce the threat of aggression by Georgia".

"Some representatives of the so-called Georgian democracy are still trying with different methods to equip their brave fighters. Therefore, we again demand the putting a large-scale embargo on arm import into Georgia - primarily for offensive arms and heavy equipment," Karasin said.

According to Tsiklauri, "the whole world is convinced that Russia is the aggressor". "Georgia will get the number and variety of weapons that it needs to strengthen its defense capability," he said.

His opposition counterpart Guram Chakhvadze also said that "Russia's demand to put an embargo on arm import into Georgia serves only to one purpose - to present Georgia as a militaristic and aggressive country."

According to Chakhvadze, Georgia's opposite reaction must follow Russia's aggression. "We even should say louder that, on the contrary, Russia conducts militarization of the occupied territories, bring its military contingent into these territories and it is a threat not only for Georgia but for the entire region," he said.
