Consul General: Plane sent to pick up passengers after aircraft skids off runway

A special plane has been sent to pick up passengers who were on board an Azerbaijani aircraft that skid off the runway in Istanbul today, Azerbaijani Consul General in Istanbul Hasan Zeynalov told Trend. The plane will take them back to Baku.

A special plane has been sent to pick up passengers who were on board an Azerbaijani aircraft that skid off the runway in Istanbul today, Azerbaijani Consul General in Istanbul Hasan Zeynalov told Trend. The plane will take them back to Baku.

The aircraft flying from Baku to Istanbul (flight number J2075) skid off the runway after landing at the Istanbul International Ataturk Airport, Turkish media reported. The plane left Baku at 10:06 a.m. local time and landed at 10:45 a.m. local time.

Azerbaijani Airlines will look into the cause of the accident.

There were 120 passengers and crew members on board the Airbus-319. No one was injured.

AZAL spokesman Maharram Safarli told Trend that the passengers were evacuated safely from the plane, and "at the moment there are no other problems."

According to the passengers, the flight crew acted professionally during the incident.

Safarli said the cause of the accident is still unknown.

"An investigation will be conducted," he said.
